WARTS/ CORNS

WARTS: one of the most common viral infections caused by HPV virus.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF WARTS:

There are several types of warts, each caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Here are the most common types:

1. Common Warts: These typically appear on the hands and fingers, and they have a rough, raised surface.

2. Plantar Warts: Found on the soles of the feet, plantar warts can be painful due to the pressure of walking on them. They may have black dots in the center.

3. Flat Warts: These warts are small, smooth, and flat-topped. They often appear in clusters on the face, neck, hands, or knees.

4. Filiform Warts: These warts have a thread-like appearance and commonly grow on the face, particularly around the mouth, nose, or eyes.

5. Periungual Warts: These warts develop around the nails and can affect both the fingernails and toenails. They may distort the nail’s shape or cause nail lifting.

6. Genital Warts: These warts appear on the genital and anal areas and are typically sexually transmitted. They can vary in size and appearance and may be raised or flat.

Each type of wart can vary in size, shape, and location, and treatment options may differ depending on these factors.

Age:Seen in teenagers, young adults, and immunocompromised individuals.
Warts are mostly spread by skin to skin contact, sometimes through fomites (sharing of shaving blades). They have tendency to auto inoculate i.e. spreading and multiplying in number with minor injury like scratching, or picking of growth.

Treatment: electro cautery and trichloroacetic acid application
Topically immune modulator creams, as prescribed by practitioner.

CORNS:

Corns are small, thickened areas of skin that develop on the feet, typically due to repeated friction or pressure. They often form on the toes or the sides of the feet where shoes rub against the skin. Corns can be painful, especially when pressed or squeezed, and they may have a hard, raised center surrounded by inflamed skin. They are commonly caused by wearing ill-fitting shoes, high heels, or participating in activities that put pressure on the feet.
